I have had enough of social media now. Well most of it.
Getting angry about things you have no real control over, witnessing horrific acts humans inflict on each other or just mind numbing dross that's pumped out. I found myself doom scrolling for nearly half an hour the other day, I had taken none of the content in and completely wasted my time.
I have setup an account with Newsblur to play around with RSS feeds as my new "social media". My main concern was missing out with up to date news, following RSS feeds is the best way to stop this from happening. The free version allows me to use RSS feeds and the premium version allows me to follow Twitter and Facebook accounts. The more I use it, the more I think I will end up going for the self hosted version on my VPS... then again premium ain't that much for someone else to deal with the hosting issues.
The last part is quite handy as I am on a few pages for local communities on Facebook and there are a few users on Twitter that do not have a presence anywhere else on the internet that I want to keep a tab on.
One of the main things that I need to sort out myself is a 'Blog Roll'. My friend Kevin has one on their site and has been really helpful on finding more interesting people to read. Going though, discovering content on my own was such a huge nostalgia trip. It really did remind me of the days of when everything on the internet was a discovery in itself.
